CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is one of the more than 100 cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, which has its psychoactive properties, CBD does not produce any kind of high or euphoric sensation, making it very useful as an anxiety treatment. However, much like any other medication or supplement, there are still questions about whether CBD oil can be used to treat anxiety and if so, how effective it can be.

What is a CBD oil?

CBD oil, or cannabidiol, is a compound in the cannabis plant that can help relieve pain and anxiety. It’s extracted from the flowers, leaves and stalks of hemp plants. Unlike THC, which is what produces marijuana’s high, CBD doesn’t produce a euphoric feeling. That means it doesn’t get you high or affect your cognition. Instead, it targets receptors in your brain to reduce feelings of pain and anxiety. The best part about these oils is that they’re legal in all 50 states (!). A recent study found that nearly 40% of people who used CBD products had an improvement in anxiety symptoms within a month. And not only does this product work for anxiety but other conditions as well: insomnia, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and even Parkinson’s disease! But the best news yet? Research has found that CBD could potentially be used as an antidote to opioid addiction!

How does CBD oil work?

CBD oil has been shown to reduce anxiety and its symptoms. Cannabidiol is a natural compound found in cannabis. It’s not the same as THC, which is another compound found in cannabis that can cause some people to have a high. CBD oil doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects or feelings of intoxication whatsoever. As such, it’s become a popular way for people who want relief from anxiety without experiencing any high to take care of their needs. This is because cannabidiol interacts with the endocannabinoid system in our bodies, which is responsible for regulating many physiological processes, such as mood and pain sensation.

How is this different from medical marijuana?

CBD oil is the non-psychoactive extract of cannabis. This means that it will not get you high and won’t have side effects like marijuana. CBD oils are typically made from hemp, which has little to no THC.

The cannabis plant does contain small amounts of THC, but less than 0.3% of any CBD product is made from hemp with more than 0.3% THC, so it doesn’t make sense to worry of getting high or being under the influence when using a CBD product. Hemp grown for use in making CBD products contains an abundance of the phytocannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD), as well as other naturally occurring cannabinoids (including tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC). The scientific literature on CBD consists of primarily preclinical research, while there are limited clinical trials showing effectiveness. However, in many cases where people report success stories with CBD it seems to work on something called endocannabinoids; your body’s own natural system that regulates appetite, sleep patterns and moods among other things. I was skeptical at first too, until I read reviews online – some people really do find relief from anxiety with this! It’s worth trying for those who experience chronic anxiety without relief from medications or other treatment methods.

Why should you use CBD oils?

Though it may sound too good to be true, there are a lot of people who swear by the effects of CBD oil for treating anxiety. They say that using it helps them manage their anxiety without the side effects of other medications. If you’re anxious about trying something new to help with your anxiety, don’t worry. You can try CBD oils out and see if they work for you without having to spend a ton of money on medication. CBD oils have been shown in some cases to improve sleep quality and even reduce symptoms of chronic illnesses such as inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis. It’s not likely that these long-term benefits will happen overnight, but they are possible.
